"Supernatural" Tattoo Design Ideas: Sigils, Symbols And Weapons

Fans of "Supernatural" have been getting tattoos since early in the series. The most common "Supernatural" tattoo design is of the anti-possession symbol that Dean and Sam have tattooed over their hearts. Another common one, and most disturbing, is the name Jensen Ackles. Don't do that, please. There are plenty of "Supernatural" tattoo design ideas based on symbols, ideas and props in the show. These ideas will proudly show your devotion to the show but can also have other meanings, as well.

The Colt: The colt was designed by Samuel Colt back in 1835, at the same time as the battle at the Alamo. The gun can kill anything, including demons. The weapon was an important object throughout a couple of seasons early on in the show. Fans could get a "Supernatural" tattoo of the Colt itself, or other ideas related to the colt.

-The Colt has a pentagram on the side. There is also a Latin saying engraved on the gun. It reads, "Non timebo mala" which translates to "I will fear no evil." Many fans get tattoos of just that saying. It comes from Psalm 23 in the Bible.

-Find someone fluent in Latin and have them translate some of Psalm 23, that includes the quote from the Colt, and get a tattoo of it. The best lines would be, "Yea, though I walk through the Valley of Death, I shall fear no evil, for thou art with me."

-The colt was made while Halley's comet was in the sky. Add the comet to the design of the Colt.

-The gun came with 13 bullets, each one numbered. Get a "Supernatural" tattoo design idea of each bullet. Wrap the tattoo around your arm, ankle or wrist.

Dean's amulet necklace: For several seasons, Dean wore a brass necklace. In a Christmas episode, viewers learned that Sam had given it to Dean when they were young. It wasn't until Castiel came along that we learned the amulet had a purpose. It would burn hot when God was near. A tattoo of the amulet can have several meanings.

-Have fire burning around the amulet in your tattoo design. It would signify that God was near to you at all times. That makes it a "Supernatural" fan design and a representation of faith.

-The amulet also represented Dean and Sam's bond. Get a tattoo of the amulet with a loved one to show your closeness. Always be careful when getting matching tattoos.

-There are many horned gods in different mythologies. It is unknown which one is represented in Dean's amulet. The symbol could represent any horned god you choose and show your love for "Supernatural" at the same time.

Devil's Trap: The Devil's Trap is a Heptagram or Pentagram that prevents demons from leaving that spot. The Winchester boys use them often. The traps can be simple in design or very complex. The Supernatural Wiki website has many photos of Devil's traps used in the show. Any one of them would make an interesting "Supernatural" tattoo design.

-The design can be drawn to look like paint, chalk, metal or just in black. One of the traps has a scorpion inside. In one episode, "Metamorphosis, " they make a simple pentagram out of a metal ring and a chain. "Weekend at Bobby's" had the best Devil's Trap. It was invisible to the eye until Bobby turned the lights off. It was drawn with black light ink. Some tattoo artists will use black light ink.

The angels: Angels became an important part of the "Supernatural" plot. Who doesn't love Cass? There are a couple of ideas for "Supernatural" tattoo designs that incorporate the angels.

-The Angel Banishing Sigil has been used several times to banish angels. It must be drawn with blood, making for an interesting tattoo design right away. In the episode, "Point of No Return, " Cass has the sigil carved onto his chest. Head to the Supernatural Wiki website to see the sigil.

-The angel sword is the choice of weapon for all angels. It can kill angels, hellhounds and archangels. The sword is silver with a silver handle. It looks like a long dagger more than a sword. There doesn't appear to be any special markings. Get a tattoo of the sword, or create a design of the sword stabbing you in the chest. On your back should be a tattoo of your angel wings turned to dust.
