If you are not quite ready to get a permanent tattoo or you would like to add a little temporary oomph to existing art on your body henna is the perfect option. Henna has been used for thousands of years in Africa, India and the Middle East. In many countries it has a deep cultural and historical significance in additions to being a stunning addition to your hands or feet. The most significant uses are to mark the passing from a girl to a woman, or for a bridal ceremony and in Morocco both the husband and the wife are decorated.
If you are in a line of work that would be squeamish to see painted hands than the obvious option is too chose henna foot designs. In the summer this is especially perfect, a nice tan, a beautiful henna design and maybe a silver toe ring or two and your feet are ready for anything, the beach, the lake, dancing or being covered in conservative shoes for closed-minded boss. Nearly as relaxing as a good pedicure, watching an artist paint a henna design on your foot is a great experience, especially if you are doing it as a bridal party activity with your friends. A few tips for getting a longer lasting result from your henna design, if followed can add three days to a week of enjoying your design. First, know that henna designs permanently stain your skin. That being said, you want your skin as fresh and dewy when you get your henna done as possible. Give you feet a good soak and exfoliation so the henna is able to penetrate as many layers of fresh skin as possible. After the henna is applied to your feet do not wash them for at least 12 hours. When you do wash them avoid any harsh or anti-bacterial soaps, they will take the top layers of skin off more quickly than a mild soap like Ivory, Dove or a body wash, and this will take your henna design with it. If you normally use a loofah or washcloth try to stop while you have your henna design. Lastly, if you rub a small amount of vegetable oil over the henna design twice a day and let it air dry--not using a towel to dry you feet--it helps to prolong the life of the design. There is a lot of freedom in selecting henna designs for you feet and every other part of your body. The fact that is a free-hand art allows the artist to accomodate virtually any whim you have, in addition to the amazing amount of henna designs that have accumulated through thousands of years of use. The intricacy and placement of your henna design can also either take the place of jewelry or justify the wearing of armfuls of bangles and can also stand up to even the darkest, vampiest color of nail polish, most henna designs are off-set nicely with one extreme or the other. The best part, if you don't love your artwork it will only be with you for a few weeks, and if you love it, as you most likely will, you can experiment with new designs at least once a month By Kristi Patrice Carter - I am a proud wife, mother and internet marketing writer.
