Tattoo Design Ideas For Music Lovers
Music is special to so many people, and because of what it does for us we want to proudly wear it on our skin as a music tattoo. The problem with music as drawn art is that we don't get to hear the music. As musician Laurie Anderson once said, "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture." You can't write about sound very well, and we can't draw sound. However, music is art, so we will try. Here are some music tattoo ideas for music lovers, performers, and dancers:
Music tattoo of your favorite sheet music: Think of your favorite piece of music and turn it into a sheet music tattoo. This works best with classical music because the notes themselves look like art on paper. It also works best with piano sheet music, because there are many more notes and fun musical symbols to add to the tattoo. You don't have to, of course, and can use guitar chords if you wish, or even notes for lyrics. For this music tattoo, don't just place rows of the sheet music across your body. Instead, let the notes wind around your arm, your shoulder, your chest, or your leg. Use just the notes without the staff, or use the entire sheet music for the music tattoo.
Music tattoo to represent peace and equality: How many people look at piano keys and immediately start singing "Ebony and Ivory", and do it without even realizing it? You know you're guilty. Piano lovers, and believers in equality should get a music tattoo of piano keys. You don't have to put "Ebony and Ivory" on the tattoo, but you can if you want. Actually, Richard Nixon gave us a beautiful quote that would fit this music tattoo. It reads, "If you want to play beautiful music you must play the black and white notes together."
Take this music tattoo and step further and make each piano key a different color of the rainbow. This would represent equality and gay pride.
Music tattoo that represents music as a refuge: We say this a lot, don't we? That we turn to music when we need help. We all say that music makes us happy, brings out the tears that need to be shed, that remind us of memories from long ago. Many musicians say that they make music to show their feelings and emotions because they can't show them any other way. They hide behind the music. If this sounds familiar to you, create a music tattoo with this idea. Create musical notes, or use an actual sheet music from your favorite song. Between two of these notes, or sitting on a note, would be you. Not an actual tattoo of you, but a figure. It could be a stick figure made from musical notes, or a little cartoon version of you. The figure could be hiding behind the notes, and poking its head out at the world. The idea is that the person, you, hides within music because it is your refuge. Add a quote that shows this idea.
Music tattoo of the angel of music: Thomas Carlyle said that, "Music is well said to be the speech of angels." Plato described music as giving "soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything." These quotes immediately make you imagine an angel of music, right? An angel of music would make a beautiful music tattoo design. There are many ideas for an angel of music:
-A traditional angel with robe, halo, and feathery wings. In its arms would be a harp, as we so often seen angels holding. The angel could be singing, and musical notes are flowing out of its mouth.
-A modern angel of music with rock star clothing and a microphone in hand. Just create the sexiest musician you wish existed and put a halo and wings on him or her. Pick your favorite music genre, and turn that performer into an angel of music. Whether country, metal, rap or pop, they can all have an angel of music. You can turn that angel into a music tattoo.
Music tattoo of your musical instrument: This is an obvious one, right? You play an instrument, and are proud of it. Get a tattoo of that instrument to show the world what you can do when you aren't actually playing the instrument. It is also a great reminder later in life if you stop playing and get a "real job". You won't forget what you loved to do when it's inked right on your skin. It will remind you to keep playing.
Music tattoo that represent music as religion: Yes, Jimi Hendrix fans, your quote is right here: "Music is my religion." This is an excellent quote for music lovers. Getting it as a tattoo will really show your devotion, and probably offend a few people as well. Here are some ideas for music tattoos to go with the quote:
-Hands praying to musical notes.
-An opened book with a red ribbon to mark the pages. Inside would be sheet music. It should resemble a bible.
-Jesus crucified on a guitar. You'd really offend some people with that one, but would look awesome.
Music tattoo of musical wings: Sometimes we hear people say that music gives us wings. Get a music tattoo of wings made out of musical notes. The wings should be placed on the back, but isn't necessary. The notes could be joined together to form the feathers of the wings, or use sheet music that fans out into a wing shape. If done right, and get a great artist to design this, a music tattoo of musical wings would look amazing. It would certainly beat any regular wings tattoos we see. Especially if it is a full back tattoo.
Music tattoo of famous music quotes: As we know, we can't write about music. However, there are some people who have managed to speak about music profoundly. Getting these quotes as a tattoo, along with a few musical notes for added effect, is a good idea for music tattoos. Here are some music quotes perfect for tattoos:
-"Music is what feelings sound like."
-"Without music life would be an error." Nietzsche. This quote is sometimes seen as, "Without music life would be a mistake."
-"Most people live and die with their music still un-played. They never dare to try." This one is beautiful. Thank cosmetic queen Mary Kay Ash for this one.
-"Modern music is as dangerous as cocaine." Not condoning drug use here, but it is a great analogy. Composer Pietro Mascagni said it.
-"All music is beautiful." Billy Strayhorn.
