What Are The Most Popular Tattoo Designs?

Tattoos are typically gotten as a form of self-expression, however, many tattoo designs are so popular one person can have a design similar to the next. If you want a tattoo but aren't sure what to get, consider the most popular tattoo designs requested to help you make your permanent body art decision.

The tribal tattoo is far and beyond the most common tattoo design, and what's neat about it is that there are many variations of the tribal tattoo to consider for your needs and personality. You can get a tribal tattoo based upon the aboriginal or indigenous cultures, or go more trendy and get a tribal tattoo in more modern graphic design to suit your fancy. With a tribal tattoo, the possibilities are many.

The second most popular tattoo design is the star, or nautical star. Stars symbolize luck and guidance, and are very popular to get, particularly for a beginning tattoo or a smaller tattoo. I know many people who have star tattoos on their inner wrists or on the skin between their thumb and forefinger, and they have never regretted getting this popular charm.

Of course, crosses are popular as well, and come in third for the most requested tattoo designs. From a basic cross to a cross that is almost tribal in design, large, small, and anything in between, many people choose to ink their faith into their skin to have God always with them or show their religious beliefs.

Angels come in forth as popular tattoo designs. Many people choose angels to honor loved ones who have passed, or to represent always having a guardian angel with them. Other people just like the ethereal beauty of an angel tattoo and want these symbols of God on their bodies.

Wings have risen in popularity, particularly along the back of the neck or on the shoulder blades across the back. Wings fly in at fifth place, and on top of being a cool tattoo that people can admire, wings symbolize freedom, and is a great form of expressing one's free identity.

Maori tattoos are the most requested of tribal tattoos, fitting them in sixth place in tattoo popularity. Maori tattoos are often requested on the face, and some people choose to adorn their entire faces Ala the Maori tribe in an entire Maori tribal tattoo. This bold tattoo makes a strong statement for anyone who dares to wear it.

The dragon comes in at number seven, and is often a choice tattoo for the arm, or as a "sleeve" (a tattoo that adorns the majority of the arm). These tattoos represent mystery and power, and are stunning when designed to wrap around an individuals' arm. These colorful and fearful tattoos are a choice among many.

The Phoenix, the mythical bird that rises from its ashes, soars in at number eight for tattoo popularity. These birds are so admired for their mythical abilities that they are often requested to be permanently placed on peoples' bodies to honor the Phoenix's magical powers and immortality. it represents forever life, and many people like this talisman on their person at all times.

At number nine is the butterfly, most popular with women who want tattoos. Butterflies are sweet little creatures, and designed large or small, with flowers and vines or without, are a pretty adornment on skin representing innocence, beauty, change, and fragility. No wonder it's a prime choice for a tattoo among women.

And finally, number ten. Of course, it's the fairy. No inked wannabe considers a tattoo without thinking of getting a fairy. Fairies represent magic, folklore, playfulness, and fanciful wishes, and is the perfect tattoo for someone who wants to keep a bit of youth and magic on their bodies for life. From Tinkerbell to a personal design of a fairy for your own needs, a fairy tattoo can make anyone smile.
