Looking for a place to send the kids to camp this summer? Here are ten great options for every kid, and every parent's budget!
YMCA Camp Wewa: Run by the Central Florida YMCA, camp Wewa brings to mind just about every image of an old-fashioned summer camp that your imagination can conjure up. Activities here include swimming, team sports, fishing, canoeing, rock climbing, drama, arts & crafts, archery, hiking, and more. Camp runs throughout the summer, divided into weekly sessions, and children may be registered for any, or all of them. Each week carries its own theme: pirates, moives, beach, etc. Hours are 7:30am - 6:00pm with organized camp activities running from 9:00am - 4:00pm. Prices are $135, per week, per child. Discounts are available for early registration, and for Central Florida YMCA members. Scholarships are also available on a case by case, need driven basis. Residential camp is also offered here. SeaWorld puts on some really unique and fun week-long camp experiences, all with an oceanic theme, with programs varying widely by age. There is a parent attended preschool option, which also offers programs for certain holidays. Half day programs are availabe for grades K-5, and run from 9:15am - 2:00pm. Full day programs are offered for grades K-8, and run 9:15am - 5:00pm. Before and after care services are available at an additional charge. Sessions are held throught the summer, however there are only two half sesson programs available per grade level (a thrid is offered to all grades (K-5) during the July 4 week, however), and one session per grade level for most full day offerings (2-3 graders have 2). As a result, this might not be the best option for a full-summer program, but would mix well with other weekly offerings throughout the area. Prices range from $229-$269 of half days, and $329-$369 for full days. Discounts are available for Seaworld Annual passholders and vary by type of session and type of pass. Residential sessions are available as well. OWC: Got a little adventurer at home who lives to make waves? Try out Orlando Watersports complex summer camp. Each session includes basic instruction and all nessary equipment. Weekly sessions run all summer long From 10:00am-4:00pm. Prices are $250 per week. Discounts are available for additional children within the same family. Devonwood Farms: Do you have a horse lover in your family? Then Devonwood Farms may be summer camp heaven! Lessons are offered for beginner and advanced riders, both Western and English. Games, crafts, and lessons in caring for a horse are also part of the day. Weekly sessions are offered throughout June & July, and each session ends with a show for the campers to show off their progress. Camp runs 8:30am - 2:00pm, and before and after care are available for an additional charge. Prices are $350 per week with a discount offered for multiple weeks. Acting Adventure Kid's Camp: Brought to you by the folks at Sleuths Mystery Dinner show on I-Dive, this acting and Improv camp is perfect for little aspiring stars. Camp is open to children ages 6-13. Beginner and intermediate sessions are offered throughout June on a weekly basis, and Advanced sessions are held in July, Auditions are required for advanced level only. Prices are $163.45 per week.
